CARLO'S POV
Pleasure aside, the entire day had been one long mix-up. I generally tried to avoid the town square, but when I woke toward the beginning of this morning, my inner wolf had felt like it was troubling my bones, and my stomach throbbed.
Filling the vast depression in my spirit with a nonexistent wolf anxiety.
While you might think that would be a good thing given the longing in my stomach, I had justifiably avoided other werewolves.
Now was not the time to return. I could feel my cheeks warming up; there was nothing worse than a werewolf party.
This danger was the exact reason I seldom came to the city. Although the region was an isolated area, not possessed by any wolf pack, who was to say I couldn't find another werewolf floating through?
However, as much as I hated my history of being an Alpha, I knew that I possessed a scent like the most ideal sort of mate material to female werewolves. Alphas, particularly, were accustomed to taking what they needed, and one look into this wolf's eyes was all that was needed to prove it.
Three hours after Roy and Elmont left to spy on Logan's abode, Elmont returned with the report that the strange lady whom we presumed to be our mate was incarcerated in a warehouse near Port Alvarez.
"That is some uplifting news anyway. We have the opportunity to break in easily if we take twenty of our men with us and launch a rampaging attack on the fortress," Fletcher said, voicing precisely the same thing I was thinking.
I nodded. Fletcher and I both stood in the town square. The trackers had finally gotten back to town about an hour ago. Viola had made some good porridge for them to regain their fortitude.
"We need to take our firearms with us. I'd prefer we take on this conflict in human form since we will have to break through the walls," I said. "Do you have any idea where precisely she is being held?"
"The person I heard talking said the lovely damsel is in the medium security wing," Elmont giggled, yet I got irritated at hearing another person call the lady lovely.
"What was that, El? I heard you!" I winked, aiming my musket at him.
"Don't shoot, chief!" he laughed, yet I saw the wince of his lips.
"You can definitely relax, Elmont. You've worked effectively keeping an eye on Logan."
Elmont had hid in the shrubs on the frontier of Logan's palace and heard two men discussing the lady they had captured. That was the manner by which he had found where she was being kept.
Without the little info gained from this discussion, we would have been uninformed about where to attack and where to go once we got through Logan's secured walls.
Nonetheless, we simply had to venture to every part of the surrounding area close to Port Alvarez and do the needful. She needed to be safe, and it was our utmost duty; none of us were ready to back down. If we do, Logan will suddenly own everything, and we'll be left with nothing.
"Can you please assist me with choosing the men we're taking with us?" Fletcher had his scratch pad ready and had already recorded a few names with his fountain pen.
It was a habit for him to write using the old fountain pen he had acquired from his father rather than newfangled equipment. Fletcher was the one responsible for the administrative office in our pack. I was happy he was the one doing the paperwork.
However, I knew our trackers and watchmen better since I was the person who left the Alphas' office in our home and helped with different humble undertakings around the town on a more regular basis.
So I would be able to assist Fletcher with the task of dividing our powers accurately. We needed to leave behind some good men in case Logan got a silly plan to attack Belmont while we were out raiding his Port Alvarez residence.
Such a trap wouldn't be an inept thought; by eliminating a portion of our powers, we were leaving him a magnificent chance to obliterate the home we endeavored to maintain.
However, I had no doubt the ex-convicts subject to his authority disdained the superintendents and their families who had helped keep them hostage for such countless years; the very superintendents who had then decided to remain behind on the island and live subject to the authority of myself and Fletcher as a feature of Belmont as opposed to getting back to the central area to make new lives for themselves.
Their superintendents were loyal to us since we were part of the family that had governed over Dartmoor Island for quite a long time, and being that some of our kin had been named as head superintendents when the island had turned into a jail, however we were the last two of our kind.
Every other person had been killed by Logan and his henchmen during the uprising.
Until the last three decades, the forest surrounding East Dartmoor Island was a notorious hiding place for bandits, highwaymen, and outlaws. From East to West, the forest extended about five miles, from Rotterdam on the east to Caldwell in the west.
On the right, facing southward, rises Valparaiso, surrounded by a forest, and a huge ravine between the black pines.
Due to that horrible experience, we despised the despicable head of the uprising. Or rather, the murder of our family was one of the many reasons we couldn't stand him. Logan was a truly despicable person; he was hungry for conquest. A good definition of a bloodthirsty demon.
