Content Guidelines
Overview
Novelux is home to millions of readers across all ages and backgrounds. These guidelines exist to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone on the platform. All content — manuscripts, chapter titles, cover images, author bios, and comments — must comply with these rules.
Violating these guidelines may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination, depending on severity.
What's Allowed
✓ Fully permitted
- Romance (including passion and emotional intimacy — see Restricted for explicit content rules)
- Fantasy, sci-fi, and speculative fiction — including dark themes handled thoughtfully
- Conflict, moral ambiguity, villain protagonists, and complex ethical scenarios
- War, crime, and thriller content with literary purpose
- LGBTQ+ stories and representation
- Cultural, religious, and historical themes explored respectfully
- Mental health topics, trauma, and healing narratives
Restricted Content (Mature Label Required)
- Explicit sexual content between consenting adults (must be tagged Mature)
- Graphic violence beyond standard action/thriller conventions
- Strong language used extensively throughout
- Content depicting substance use in a non-glorifying context
Even with a Mature label, content involving minors in sexual situations is strictly and absolutely prohibited — there are no exceptions.
Strictly Prohibited
✗ Zero tolerance — results in immediate permanent ban
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18, regardless of fictional framing
- Content that glorifies, encourages, or instructs real-world violence, terrorism, or mass harm
- Targeted harassment of real individuals
- Content designed to incite hate based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation
- Doxxing — publishing private, personally identifiable information about real people
- Plagiarism — submitting another author's work as your own
- Spam — submitting low-quality, auto-generated, or duplicate content
Manuscript Formatting Rules
Properly formatted manuscripts load faster, display better, and are reviewed more quickly by our editorial team. Follow these rules:
- Chapter titles must begin with the word "Chapter" followed by an Arabic numeral (e.g. "Chapter 1", "Chapter 12").
- Chapters must be in correct sequential order at time of submission.
- Minimum chapter length: 500 words. Recommended: 1,500–4,000 words per chapter.
- Do not use excessive blank lines, all-caps paragraphs, or decorative characters between sections — use a standard scene break (e.g. "***" or "—").
- Dialogue must be properly punctuated. Our editorial team will flag common punctuation errors before publishing.
- Submit in plain text or the supported document format (.docx, .txt). Do not submit PDFs.
Cover Image Rules
- Recommended dimensions: 600×900px (2:3 aspect ratio).
- File formats: JPG or PNG. Max size: 5MB.
- Covers must not contain explicit nudity or graphic violence.
- Covers must not use copyrighted images without a valid licence.
- Text on covers should be minimal and legible at thumbnail size.
- AI-generated cover art is permitted provided you have the rights to use it.
Enforcement
Content Removal
Violating content is removed without notice. Authors are notified via email with the specific reason.
Warning
Minor first violations receive a formal warning. A second violation of the same type escalates to suspension.
Suspension
Accounts may be suspended for 7, 30, or 90 days depending on severity and history.
Permanent Ban
Zero-tolerance violations result in immediate, permanent account termination and potential legal referral.
Appeals
If you believe your content was removed or your account was actioned in error, you may appeal within 14 days of the enforcement action. Submit your appeal to appeals@novelux.com with:
- Your author username
- The story or chapter title affected
- Your explanation of why the action was in error
Appeals are reviewed within 5–7 business days. Our decision after review is final.
