Emily’s POV
I stood rooted to the spot, as I eavesdropped on the conversation between the council elders and my father.
Amelia is the king’s cure? And she has been bloodbound to him? But how? That’s totally impossible!
How can a measly, wretched human break the curse of the most powerful being in existence.
Some men came to the clan three days ago, and without reasons they killed seven vampires, saying it was the king’s orders. Listening to them now, it turns out he killed them to force Amelia into signing the contract.
That stupid bitch!
How can she be so lucky to be his cure, and to share his bed. A good for nothing human like her should not even be able to look at him.
“Emily.” I heard my mother, Rosalind’s voice from behind me. I turned around swiftly.
“Oh dear. You know you shouldn’t be eavesdropping on your father’s meetings, come with me.” She said and dragged me to a corner.
“Is it true, mother? She really is his cure?” I asked. Hoping someone would tell me that it’s a lie.
“As much as I hate to admit it, it is true.” She responded,
“But how? It is said that the woman who would break his curse is a witch. Amelia’s a pathetic human.”
“I really don’t know, Emily. But don’t let it bother you. The king will definitely depose her after his curse have been cured. You know how dangerous he is.” My mother said. But it still didn’t settle right with me, the fire burning in my chest only flared more.
I’ve always loved Helion. The first time I saw him was when I went on a business trip with my father, we met him on our way to the airport. I was lost staring at him, my father had to force my head down to bow. But he didn’t spare us a glance, and just walked past us.
My obsession for him grew bigger after that day. But I couldn’t go an inch closer to him because that would be a death sentence.
And now, the one person I hated the most is by his side.
“I hope so, Mother.” I smiled at her and walked back to my chambers, slamming the door shut.
I screamed and swept everything on the dressing table to the ground with my hands. My chest heaved.
I sat down on my bed and scoffed. Amelia must think she is finally free. In her dreams. Even if she’s not here, I’ll still make living miserable for her.
My eyes drifted to the door as I sensed someone was there.
Then a soft knock followed,
“Come in,” a maid entered.
“My lady, I brought you some fruits.” She said and walked to the table, stopping briefly to look at the mess on the floor.
I was feeling hungry and needed to feed, and she came just at the right time.
In a split second I was standing behind her, she turned and was shocked to see me behind her, and tried to step back.
“Don’t move.” I compelled her and she stood, rooted to the spot. I grabbed her and plunged my fangs into her neck, drinking her blood till I was satisfied. I pushed her away and she dropped to the ground, still under my compulsion spell.
“Get lost!“ I ordered and she finally came to her senses, dashed up and fled the room.
I wiped the blood that stained my lips as a devilish smile crept up my lips. Amelia must think she is safe in the king’s castle, she has no idea what she’s gotten into.
*THE SHADOW REALM *
In the abyss of the shadow realm, there are no walls, only mirrors which reflects the weight of the unseen.
A figure, cloaked in black, eyes hollow like the void, stood across the obsidian well, whispering some unclear words into the well. Calling onto the spirits of the unknown.
“Master.” A silhouette appeared from the darkness, and bowed on one knee.
“The shapeshifter is dead?” The figure asked- the voice sounded unlike anything real.
“Yes, master. He failed.”
“A useless instrument,” The voice muttered, but it sounded like a hundred voices spoke all at once. “How about the girl? Any sign yet?”
“Nothing yet, master. I think she is probably a human.”
“Hmmm, I see.” The voice whispered.
“What is your command, master?”
The figure waved its long, foggy fingers and the mirrors began to spin, revealing different faces till it stop on a particular face.
“Her! She is our next pawn.” The voice laughed, an echo of emptiness radiated through the mirror walls. “But, we wait, and let him lower his guard, only then can we take her out”
